Things to do in Lyme Regis
The beach

The beautiful stretch of beach is mostly pebbles however there is a sand section for those who prefer. It gets very busy in the summer with tourists as it is an ideal location and a great place to relax. The sea front has a lot of places that provide food, drink and especially Ice cream, meaning you could spend all day there. Boasting quick access to the sea and refreshments it is an ideal place to spend a summers day! The sea is usually calm so it is perfect for a relaxing swim or for kids to play in. Dogs are allowed on the town beach between October and April however they are welcome all year round on the neighbouring beaches such Monmouth beach, East Cliff beach and Church Cliff beach.
2. Fossil hunting

Lyme regis sits at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, and prehistoric discoveries are embedded within the town's culture. Due to the Blue Lias cliffs many fossils are well preserved, when storms hit the fossil are dispersed onto the beach for people to find. Lyme regis fossil museum hosts a guided fossil walk to help you find your own fossils. The hosted fossil walks are usually at Lyme Regis' east beach by Black Ven. This is due to the frequent landslides and mudslides revealing fossils more regularly. To the West there is Monmouth beach, home to the Ammonite pavement. You can't remove fossils from the natural sediment there, however it's a great spectacle to appreciate.
3. Fossil museums and shops

Following on from the prehistoric theme, Lyme regis has an abundance of fossil shops along with two museums. Being the birthplace of Mary Anning, the famous fossil collector, dealer and palaeontologist, Lyme regis has become a hub for dinosaurs and Jurassic discoveries. It's definitely worth digging into the rich history embedded within this seaside town if it interests you, and it might be nice to bring home a piece of the past as a souvenir from the fossil shops to remember your trip.
4. Lyme rib rides

Lyme rib rides host fast and leisurely boat trips catering for the more relaxed and the adrenaline junkies amongst you. They have a team of qualified and experienced skippers ensuring you are in safe hands. They run a variety of trips ranging in price and even host private tours. This is without a doubt the best way to experience the Lyme bay coastlines staggering views. You can find Lyme Rib rides on the pontoon at the end of the cob (harbour). It can be very busy in peak season so make sure you book to avoid disappointment.
5. Fishing Tour

There are several Boat trips for sightseeing and fishing which makes for a perfect day out for the avid fishermen or even someone interested in having a go at something new. It's a great way to explore Lyme bay and gain some knowledge of the Jurassic coast provided by the experienced captains on board. Lyme regis is very popular for its fishing, these charters will take you out deep sea fishing and Makerel fishing. Whatever you catch (within legal limits) you can keep, so you might bring home something for the barbecue later!
6. Langmoor and Lister gardens

Langmoor and Lister gardens are situated towards the Cobb and beautifully overlook the sandy beach. The gardens are lushious and offer a great area of greenery to sit and relax, pondering on the exquisite view. A lot of people like to sit and have picnics, fish and chips or a few drinks basking in the sun up there. There is even a mini golf course and a cafe for refreshments in the gardens.
Places to eat
Pocco pizza

Pocco Pizza is my favourite place to eat in Lyme regis. It’s a small restaurant however it gives off a very relaxed vibe and transports you abroad with its authentic Italian design and feel. They serve Italian beverages and Roman style pizza (thin and crispy). The staff are always extremely friendly and helpful, there is a a large pizza oven as you enter the restaurant where you can see all the pizzas be made with care. There’s a large selection of mouth watering pizzas, but be sure to read the specials board too and find the ever changing list of new toppings to try. Pocco Pizza offers indoor seating and outdoors overlooking the beach from above as it is on the second floor. As we can’t guarantee the weather, sometimes there is a temporary shelter over the outdoor area which is reminiscent of the al fresco tents in Rome! I really recommend trying Pocco Pizza if you love Italian food, just be sure to book as it can get busy and there is a limited amount of seating.
2. The Whole Hog

The Whole Hog serves roast baps, with the options being pork, chicken and jackfruit. They also have specialty donuts and tasty local coffee. The baps are served with fresh house slaw and BBQ jerk sauce. The food is delicious and perfect to takeway and eat on the beach, as the eatery is located at the bottom of the high street, a few yards from the sea front. They serve food from a hole in wall making it a quick and easy service. I highly recommend trying this place for a slightly more unusual seaside takeaway experience.
3. The Town mill bakery

The Town mill bakery is located in the heart of Lyme regis next to the old mill. The bakery specialises in sourdough and bread making. They also serve breakfast, lunch and pastries alongside Extract coffee from the Bristol roastery. They also have pantry items like eggs and flour being situated beside the mill. The food is great quality and well presented, I would definitely recommend visiting if you are looking for a light lunch or pastry. The natural decor and communal benches create a warm and friendly atmosphere which is perfect for a moment of relaxation before a busy afternoon exploring Lyme regis!
4. Herbie’s

Herbie’s fish and chips are sold from a kiosk on the sea front adjacent to the sandy part of beach, the fish is fresh and locally caught! Alongside traditional fish and chips they also have other seafood such as scallops, salt and pepper squid, whitebait, lemon sole, scampi and lots more! Not only is it a chippy, but they also serve breakfast baps and burgers. You won’t be short for options, it’s right next to the beach and the food is delicious! This is definitely a ‘proper taste of Lyme Regis’.
